Peterborough Opera

Welcome

Peterborough Opera was founded just over 40 years ago, to bring regular performances of opera in English to Peterborough. Our most recent production was The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar.

Just before Christmas in 2010 we interviewed applicants for the post of Musical Director. We have been lucky to attract an experienced and charismatic new MD – Marc Murray – whose extensive work in opera has largely been in Cape Town, S. Africa, but who has also been working since early 2010 as Director of Music at St Botolph’s Church, Boston, Lincs. 2011 has proved to be an exciting and innovative year.

Economics forced us to move our main production of The Merry Widow to the Corn Exchange in Stamford, building on a relationship which had already seen us do two concerts there. We also gave gala concerts in two new locations, St. John’s Church in Peterborough, and the Angles Theatre in Wisbech, both of which proved highly successful, and we have been invited to return next year.. We look forward to another successful year in 2012.
