Peterborough Opera

Programme

As 2011 draws to a close, we can look back on a year of changes, and look forward to what we can achieve in 2012. It is vital for the survival of Peterborough Opera that we do all we can to attract both new members and new audiences. We already have a number of events planned for 2012 and hope to continue the successes we have had so far.

2012 OPERA - DOUBLE BILL

We shall be returning to Stamford for our autumn production with two one-act operas: Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. The first is a lively comedy in which an unscrupulous family try to turn a wealthy relative’s untimely death to their advantage. The second is a dramatic work in which the infidelity of two of the central characters ultimately leads to tragedy. It contains some beautiful music such as the well known Intermezzo and Easter Hymn. Instead of the usual half-term week, we shall be performing in the week beginning 5th November.

CONCERTS

We shall be taking part in a “Flowers & Music” event in Fotheringhay Church on Saturday 9th June, and another Opera Gala in St. John’s Church Peterborough on 16th June. We have also been asked to return to the Angles Theatre in Wisbech. There will be another “Come & try opera” event in the Spring when we hope to attract some new members.

We are still considering other possible concerts etc. - watch this space!
